Situated in Witsand, Whale Watchers Inn is located approximately 100 meters from the beach at San Sebastian Bay, which is well-known as “The Whale Nursery of South Africa.”  The Inn is also within easy walking distance of the mouth of the mighty Breede River.

About Whale Watchers Inn:

Johnny and Clair Pienaar started the guesthouse back in 1996, together with their housekeeper Emily, and they all continue to welcome you to this beautiful location.

Whale Watchers Inn is a 3 star guesthouse offering both Bed & Breakfast as well as serviced, self-catering family units, which also have the added option of a full country breakfast.

There are five comfortable en-suite double rooms available on a bed & breakfast basis, four of which are sea-facing and the other has a courtyard view.  All rooms offer TV’s with DSTV decoder and smart card, fridges and tea/coffee making facilities and Whale Watchers Inn also offers free WiFi Internet facilities to guests. The five family units offer self-catering facilities and are fully equipped and serviced daily.

A further bonus is that wheelchair friendly accommodation is also available.

While in Witsand you can enjoy long,beautiful and totally unspoiled beaches,offering enjoyable and safe swimming conditions,as well as rock and surf fishing.Enjoy long strolls on the beach wher you may be lucky and find one of the beautiful pansy shells or an even more precious Nautilus shell.

If you are feeling energetic,a 4,5 kilometre walk on the beach will take you to the beautiful,sand -covered cliffs and famous"Moodie's Well"-a well dug by a Scotsman back in the 19th century to store water on camping and fishing trips.

For the youngsters who enjoy sandboarding,the amazing sand dunes along the main beach are the perfect location,offering hours of entertainment.

Kite-Surfing.Witsand has become internationally famous as a kite-surfing destination.  The area offers among the best kite-surfing conditions in the world.  Experience surfing at the bend near the river mouth running parallel to the ocean, for added adventure and fun.Boating & Fishing on the Breede River The Breede River is recognized as one of the best fishing estuaries in South Africa, with tidal action that reaches 30 km upstream. Witsand is located on the spot where the river enters into San Sebastian Bay, making it a sought-after destination for fishing as well as the superb whale watching conditions.  Fishing trips and boat hire can be arranged by prior notice, weather permitting.Birding   Birding, or bird watching, is a popular hobby these days and Witsand and the surrounding area offers a wealth of bird life to be enjoyed by both visitors and locals. Once a threatened species, Blue Cranes make a spectacular sight between August and end September, when up to 400 cranes can be seen at a time, against the backdrop of the yellow canola fields and green wheat lands.Other birds seen on a regular basis in the area include Flamingoes, Black Oyster Catchers and many more varieties of both large and small.One of the best bird watching spots is sitting on the wooden deck at Whale Watchers Inn, overlooking the garden, and watching the Cape Sugar birds and a variety of other species feeding at the bird feeders. Another great location is the sand dunes, right in front of Whale Watchers Inn, where you can watch the water birds.  Black Oyster Catchers (which were on the red alert list in 1980) can be seen, busy feeding on the rocks and in the rock pools.For those fond of even larger birds, the Witsand area even has a number of Ostrich farms that you can visit during your stay. Sightseeing day trips.There are several interesting and enjoyable day trips available in Witsand and the surrounding areas.  You can visit the last hand operated pontoon in the country at Malgas and the De Hoop Nature Reserve, still in operation today.In the De Hoop Nature Reserve watch game running wild and see the lovely proteas and fynbos decorating your surroundings.Enjoy the forgotten little hamlet of Vermaaklikheid, at the mouth of the Duivenhoks river, and the historical monument seaside village of Puntjie, as well as the famous Groot Vadersbos.  Hikers and cyclists will enjoy visiting the Grootvaders Bos Nature Reserve.   Take a wine tasting round trip to Barrydale, Montagu, Ashton and Robertson. In the Ashton/Robertson area you can also enjoy seeing some beautiful thoroughbred horse farms. In Witsand itself, visit the Witsand Craft Market for those souvenirs and gifts to take home with you.
