Ou Tronk ( The Old Jail)

The Old Jailhouse in Riversdale is probably one of the oldest historical buildings in town.It was originally built in 1838 by the 2 Barry's" from Swellendam and it was used as a trading store.In 1860 the site was bought by the state and converted into a jailhouse.During this time it was used as the Police office ,Courthouse and Jail.The warden also lived on the premises.

The "Fonteinhuisie museum"

The history of Jongensfontein is beautifully depicted in this cute old museum next to the swimming beach at Jongensfontein. This stone house(Fonteinhuisie) was buildt in about 1940. It was built of stones off the beach area.Buildings like the "Fonteinhuisie" were common in early Jongensfontein.Today this house houses the Jongensfontein museum.

Whale Watching

The peaceful coastal town lies along St Sebastian’s Bay on the CapeSouthCoast and is easily accessible  from the N2.

The town is flanked by the BreedeRiver estuary and the warm Indian Ocean and boasts 45km of pristine, sandy beach. As part of the Cape Floral Region World Heritage Site, the area offers a plethora of unique CapeFynbos.

Edge is run by a team of unique "water-people" passionate & knowledgeable about all aspects of training & Equipment.Owners Eric & Steph along with the "Bridglets" compete all over the world & are ambassadors for the fantastic sport of Kitesurfing which they have been involved in.

Doornboom.

Opposite on the corner of the street the original farmstead Doornboom or the Fourie House is situated. Th is is the oldest house in town. Th e house has been extensively renovated by the Fourie Trust as you can see on the pictures.This single story T-shaped house with its sod- and mud-patched walls, its trusses of yellow wood and poplar poles, and thatched roof with fl axen yarn, still stands after 270 years.

Brugsig.

Brugsig gained its name from the view from inside the house on the railway bridge.
According to tradition, this house was used during the war as a hideaway for
woman. A farm worker and his child rode to the house when they were being
shot at. Th e child jumped from the horse and was supposedly shot dead.

Albertinia Museum

The driving force behind the opening of this museum on 30 April 2004 was a small group of enthusiasts who realized the importance of preserving this town's history for the future generations.

The purpose of this museum is to show how past generations lived in this area. Therefore it is important to obtain antiques and memorabilia and preserve and maintain the exhibits.

This confirms the Albertinia and Albertinia's Museum's motto  "rura mihi placent" we like the country life (lifestyle).

Jakkelsvlei (Wines/Wyne)

Family owned winery in the Garden Route. Jakkelsvlei is named after all the jackals seen in the mountains surrounding the farmland. Explore the unique, off the beaten track wine farm and experience true Southern Cape hospitality or just sit back and enjoy the fruits of this labour of love.

Garden Route Game Lodge

One does not expect to find access to the big 5 on the Garden Route, usually associated with verdant, generous vegetation, forests and rivers rather than the bushveld necessary to sustain game.

But the Garden Route Game Lodge, with the Langeberg Mountains as its backdrop, provides a wonderful break from the monotony of a drive. Be warned though – you might want to stay for longer than a mere lunch stop as there is plenty to keep you occupied. 

Whale Watching

Between July and October the whales visit the coast between Stilbaai and Jongensfontein in large numbers. Exellent vantage points for Whale watching are availible. The Whales can be observed from the restaurant at Lappiesbaai and from the harbour.

Goukou River

Stilbaai flanks the beautiful Goukou river which can be navigated for up to 15km inland. Where every kind of water-related activity can be undertaken: swimming, sunbathing, surfing, windsurfing, kite surfing, angling, walking, sailing, canoeing, boating and waterskiing.

Gouritsmond

The small coastal town enjoys moderate weather throughout the year, but it is during the summer months that Gouritsmond comes alive, as revellers descend to enjoy the full benefits of this sun-sea-sand destination.

 Skiing, boating, rubber-ducking, surfing or simply chilling out on the sandy white beaches or the river banks, are favourite activities.

 Set off on a deep-sea fishing trip, or ski on the Gourits River, while friends and family endeavour to nab that succulent fish to be enjoyed on an open fire or braai. There are great lookout points from which to observe Southern Right whales frolicking in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean between June and November each year.

 There’s nothing pretentious about Gouritsmond, so expect genuine home-grown hospitality, home cooking and home-from-home  accommodation.
